when we were wandering aimlessly in the science centre, a group of primary school students rushed in noisily and messly. they were so excited that they kept running in the hall, touching anything that was within their reach. some of them found a set mirrors standing against wall forming a triangle, and they looked into the mirrors and saw so many figures that were doing exactly the same with what they are doing. when these pupils observed the amazing scene, they could not help screaming and laughing out, which made other pupils ran to the mirrors. one of my classmates saw this, and he just shaked his head slightly, signing:they are so naive and innocent that they should get excited about simple phenominon of reflection of light.
his explanation was absolutely right according to what we have learnt in physics class, however, i felt somewhat at a loss when hearing it. i still remember that when i was 9 years old, my mother took me to nanjing science and technology museum. that trip gave me the first chance to see so many intereting and amazing things and it really impressed a lot. during the whole trip, i did not feel tired though i never stopped running and climbing, and everything was so attractive to me. it has been ten years since that trip, and now, i can hardly get curious about the things around me. if i have learnt about one.thong, i explain it. if i have not learnt it, most of the time, i just ignore it because the knowledge is not included in the text, and there is no need for me to learn it.
i feel a little restless and even ashamed of my too proud thinking. in a famous book,
sophie's world, it is said that the fundamental element for becoming a philosopher is curiosity, that is to say if we want to learn and find more, we must keep curious about new things. unfortunately, we have grown up, and many a time in our daily life, we take all this as granted. when i was a pupil, i admire those university students, but when i have really become a university student, i have lost many things which i once have when i was a pupil.
we cannot blame that the education we have received because the progress and process growing should be learning knowledge, perhaps, what we should do is to keep the curiosity we had when we were young, and i think that is the inner motivation to push us move forward.
i have the same feeling. since we have grown up, we sometimes behave like an adult, but actually we are not; sometimes we behave like a child, but we lost some good qualities that only belong to children. it seems that there is no chance in front of us, which makes it so sad.
ReplyDeleteI do not think we have lost our curiosity.
ReplyDeleteWhat if we see a flying car? A walking tree? A speaking dog?
We do not feel excited because we already know the reason.
The science centre of singapore was very interesting! I was impressed by a lot of things such as the tornato maker. Although we have already known all those principles, I think it cannot lessen the enjoyment we gained from all those facilities. In addition, I agree with Heyang--the curiosity is something we put into things we don't know its origine. Therefore, I think you needn't worry much about it. (^-^)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your blog! I think it has some profound meanings. In the science centre, I also found that the young children were more active than us. I could see how excited they were when they were trying all the experiments in the science centre, running and laughing. However, I was not so excited. Well, I also found those exhibits fantastic, but I just could not act as those young boys and girls. Perhaps, just as you said, it is because that we are too old to be curious. I think it is quite sad, as we should always be curious and optimistic towards life. As a result, I hope that no matter how old we are, our hearts could still be young!
ReplyDeleteFirstly, I want to say, I totally disagree with your opinion. the reason why pupils show great curiosity is that they know less about some common knowledge, they cannot interpret it. That's what we learn in our 12year's study. Some of the equipment showed in the museum we have already saw in school for so many times. It is normal that we do not show curiosity on them. Moreover,I think a life has different stages, we have enjoyed our childhood before, it is not neccesary to linger on it til now. You should not say that the cost of growing up is lacking curiosity, I think we gain more through growing up, we think more about life instead of some theory. At least , as for me, I like the feeling of being mature and calm instead of being a child. Thank you for sharing your feelings with us.
ReplyDeleteYou have a really sensitive heart. I agree with what you said. With our growth, most of us will lose the curiosity of something new in our life and lose the passion to discover the reason of an unfamiliar phenomena. However, the better knowledge of things in life also leads to that. It makes us sane and calm about the things. In a way, it is a kind of progress in our life with the loss of passion. However, none of us want life to become boring, so sometimes wwe should keep a childish heart to give our life more happiness and passion.
