This morning, I went to National University of Singapore by subway. When the train arrived at Chinese Garden, a middle-age Malaysia man got on the train with the help of some kind people. After he took a seat, I was aware that he was a blind man due to some words printed on his bag-- Massage by Blind Man, Call Me! HP: XXXXXXXX. These words really moved me. Logically, a blind and aged man should have not worked for his living because he can get assist from the government and his family will take care of him. Moreover, he actually went out on his own. I could not help thinking the reason why he went out to work alone.
The first possible reason was that he was so poor that he had to work to maintain his life. I could find some evidences from his clothing, bag and the candy he was eating—a kind of ordinary and cheap candy. However, this reason was contradictory to what I said about the help of the government before. Therefore, I passed this conjecture.
The second possible reason, I think, was that he wanted to live a more meaningful life but compromise to the fate owing to his blind eyes. He might think:‘ Even though my eyes are blind, I still have two hands, I still can walk, I still can think, I still can help others, why can’t I work, I am not a trash!’ Regardless of the opposition of his family, he learned massage.
The third possible reason is that before the blindness of his eyes, he was an outstanding professional massagist and he was love with his job. Some basketball players will be occupied in handicapped basketball because they have a passion for this sport. These two have some ideas in common.
At last, may this warrior has good luck!
Frist of all, i must say you really have a detailed and close look at the old man, which shows that you really have a good observation of life. As for the man in your blog, i think that the second reason is more likely to be the real one. Around us, there are many people refuse to bow to the unfortunate fate and want to fight for their own meaningful life. I always respect these people and make efforts to follow them to chase my dream, to create my own destiny. All in all, it's a good blog~!
ReplyDeleteyour blog reminds me of something i've experienced in shijiazhuang when i was in my senior middle school. shijiazhuang is called a city established by the train. it is a center area. thus many people gather in shijiazhuang to make a living. among them, quite a percentage make a living by cheating. some of them are even normal people. they cannot compare to the old man you mantion. it is quite a satire.
