Blog 7 The Road Not Taken

Last week, I read the poem “The Road Not Taken” in English class. Although I have read it before in Chinese class when I was in middle school, this time the poem resonates strongly with my experience and leads me to more thoughtful consideration. When I read this poem in the middle school, I tried to understand what the writer wanted to express with the explanation of our teacher. Although at that age I was aware of how choices can make all the difference, it is not until now that I manage to grasp the really meaning of this poem. Before the National College Entrance Examination, the only thing I need to worry about is my study. I never spent much time and efforts in making choices for my life because there is nothing to hesitate about. However, everything became so incredible and changeable after the exam. Suddenly, I was forced to face so many options to choose. Just like what said in the poem, I chose the way less traveled by, the way with numerous incredible factors. Even though I am not sure whether this mysterious but charming way can lead to my wanted life, I will do my best to face all the challenges and enjoy all the happiness that this way provides. As the poem says, maybe one day I shall be telling the old story with a sigh: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by.

  1. Yes. You have taken the one less travelled because few in China are even given this opportunity. A road that has more uncertainty but also more challenges and rewards, I hope.
