In the development of human being, although the natural ability of both genders did not change much, the view for males and females varied in different times.
People have a prejudice against females because of many reasons in the last several thousand years and even now. However, do you know that in the Stone Age, human being was in a society called Matrilineal Society, which means that the females were the leaders and they had a higher status? Thus, they were generally respected by males. I think the reason is that females were the builders of a group because they had the ability to give birth, so they could make the group united. Though they were not as strong as males, they could help develop the group with their gentle minds and special abilities.
However, thousand years ago, this situation changed. Males became leaders because human beings realized that they should have strong individuals to protect their groups and lead them to do tough things. Because of the advantages in bodies, the males became leaders. At that time, there was no prejudice against females because both genders had their own abilities and works to do.
In contrast, when human being stepped into feudal society, rulers set up a hierarchy system which made the females in a lower social position in order to solidify their domination. Consequently, unfair time of females began. Females suffered a lot in the past because of the greed of males. They were the victims of politics and strongly eager for equality in a long period.
Finally, with the struggle from generation to generation and the regain of most males’ conscience, the females obtain the same rights as males in some way in most parts of the world. However, human being still has a long way to go in genders’ equality because of the deep inveteracy of some proud males.
Actually, many females have proved with their great achievements that they can do many things as well as males and they are no longer the weaker ones because both genders have advantages over the other one.
I hope that both genders can act the right roles and cooperate with each other, and then our society will have bigger progress.
From your blog, I know more about the change of gender roles,but I have a question.Men are always supposed to be gentle to women. Is this suggest that women are always the weaker ones ?
ReplyDeleteActually, women are weaker than men in physical factors. However, it does not mean women are weaker in all aspects, but many people have prejudice because of traditional opinions. I think to be gentle to wemen is a nature of men.
DeleteI agree with you. In this society, nobody can neglect the importance of women. From physiological angles, females have the unique capacity of giving birth; moreover they have innate motivation to care about children and the old. Without women, this world will surely become more cruel and offish. From the angle of character, women are more tender and considerate. Further, they are sensitive so that they can effectively mediate the controversy between people. Many territories, like PR (public relations), science and education also need women; so I think it is stupid to argue that women are useless. As women are an essential element of our world, we should respect them and treat them equally.
ReplyDeleteOf course you are right.Women are like the colour white while the men are like the colour black,which makes the balance of the Great Ultimate.However,I think,there is no necessity to be gentle to them all the time,because some women are selfimportant and so they will think that we treat them gently means that we think they are weaker.Actually,some men also want to be treated gently like the way women being treated.
ReplyDeleteI think we have talked about this topic for several years and nearly everyone believe that women are equal to men. However, sometimes, I think since we are equal, why should guys behave like gentlemen? We are supposed to give seats to women on bus and think that"Ladies first", is it equal to men? More burdens are laid on men, is it equal? Maybe these questions seem weird, but I hope to hear your explanations.

As to the hypothesis of the Matriarchal Clan Society, it survived into the 20th century but this hypothesis of matriarchy as having been an early stage of human development is mostly discredited today, most experts saying that it never existed. I quite agree with you that male and female should have their proper divide of responsibility.
ReplyDeletefrom your blog i learn form about gender roles. from my personal perspective, i think such situations as you mentioned in the passage are resulted from the changes of society. along the history, humans have been desiring for the highest productive things to happen and sometimes they even pursue it within any cost. this kind of mind accordingly contributes to the inequality between males and females.
