Blog 2: What We Pay and What We Gain

My heart could hardly slow down until our group 1 completely finished our oral presentation about our business plan. A few minutes ago, I could even hear my accelerated heartbeat when presenting the services of our company to my classmates because of a combination of excitement and nervousness. I tried to do my best to leave a deep impression of H.I.O, our company, on all the audience so that my presentation was worthy of the pretty slides which we had made great efforts to create.

However, our group won neither the first nor the second prize unfortunately, which was quite a pity. According to our mentor’s comments, we stressed so much on amusing the viewers that we even distracted their attentions from what we were talking about. Moreover, some parts of our plan were a bit confused.

Was that because we did not devote enough time to preparing it? The answer is definitely no, for we have spent the whole weekend in finding materials such as dozens of pictures for the slides and created at least three modified version- in other words, we have improved them three times or even more. I can even declare that we have taken it so seriously that we totally forgot our recreations on the weekend.

Therefore, the problem may locate on the way we present our plan instead of the slides or the plan itself. I must admit that our idea was actually quite good and it would have a huge market if it came to practice; however, we can explain our plan more specifically and pay more attention to practical application rather than vague theory. For example, in the service part, I should make it clear that where can the consumers enjoy our herbal meals, but not just describe the magical effects of the herbs.

Nevertheless, we all could not deny that we had done a good job. Sometimes we just gain less than we have paid. It may not seem to be fair but in fact, it is a process that we obtain experience, as I consider. After that, we grow. We just need more practice to become a proficient of what we are engaged in someday.

  1. This blog reminds me of the bad presentation that I made this morning… (TAT) I was so nervous and did not perform well, and I am so sorry for other members in my group. Well, as for the plan itself, I have to say that it was a good idea, according to me; however, maybe we did not make it clear enough for the presentation. Besides, we did not think through the whole project in every aspect was also a shortage of our presentation. Nevertheless, this is only our first time to do the oral presentation, and I am quite confident that we can do better next time!

    1. Thanks, Ji Yi. I think that you did it quite well that morning! There is no need to apologize. We just did not grasp the most significant part of a business plan. Let's make progress together!

  2. I think you have done a very good work.I can see your hard work from your vivid presentation. However, as the mentor said, you mainly introduced your good effects, but ignore how to found a company. I think it is really a pity that you have gone in the wrong direction. However,as you said, the most important thing is that we grow.I hope we all can make big progress and gain more experience through the study of bridging course.

  3. You all deserve a pat on the back for your efforts. Although you didn`t win, you all did a very good job, especially on the slides. I was very impressed how much effort you all put in. Don`t worry, I`ve noted your hard work. Perhaps from this experience you could reflect on how you could have done better (which you already have). Sometimes you need to remind yourself not to be too carried away with one aspect and forget the importance of other aspects. Powerpoint slides are important but they are only secondary to your presentation. I agree that your business plan is feasible--you just need to include more explanations or clarification to dispel any doubts that your audience may have. This is your first OP experience and you can learn a lot from it. Don`t be discouraged that you didn`t win--your opportunity to prove yourself will come. But I still say:"Well Done!"

  4. Jun Ji,do not be so depressed. You have done a great job.I have witnessed you efforts.ALL of our members have done a great job,and i think only i was lazy at that time.I am so sorry about that.I think the problem is that we have not cooperated with each other well, and that is why we did not present our plan well.We do not have a clear idea that how to introduce it.We have not discussed it before, and we have not worked together before our presentation.I think if we had ever discussed the steps about how we introdue our plan, and then form a specific idea,we are bound to do a great job.

    1. Thank you, Da Quan. By the way, what makes you think that I must be depressed? Do not worry, I am just a bit frustrated, not depressed as you may think. We can enhance our friendship and cooperation in the near future. Then our work will be better next time.

  5. When I read your blog, I think I can totally understand your feelings, since I was the leader of our group, I know how hard our members worked so as to make our scheme better; nonetheless, just as you say, “life likes a chocolate ”,which means we cannot foresee what will happen in the next time. I felt disappointed when I heard the result as well, but I think the most thing for this activity is to improve our skills about how to work as a team and how to be a good teammate. When pondering from this angle, I felt proud of our group; we all did a good job. Even though we did not get any material reward, we obtained the friendship, which, I think, maybe is the best gift for us.
