I must say that it's really lucky for me to be chosen as one of the SM3 student. In my position, there is still a long distant for China to improve the education system.
As we all know, the four years in university could be the most important period in one's life. University is actually a smaller and easier society where people start building their own views about life and friends. In that place, the majors students choose will directly determine the job which they will have in the future.
America has many top-class universities. These are really tough places for students because everybody here are burning their energy for knowledge and bright futures. There is no time for movies, shopping, or hanging out with beautiful girls. Nobody can even have a good sleep as a result of a huge amount of reading missions and researches. But it is these universities that send thousands of genius to all over the world every year.
But there is something wrong with the universities in China. Students no longer concern about their courses and homework. They waste their time relaxing and the only thing to force them to read books is examination. This serious problem i think is caused by the national entrance examination, which called GaoKao in China. It will be taken by millions of students per year, but only some of the students will pass and go to the university which is determined by their marks. So this makes students, teachers and parents really nervous. In a child’s senior high, junior high and even primary school, there is no time for playing and relaxing. The only thing they are required to do is study for a higher mark to go to an ideal university. As a result, students spend about twelve years working very hard for nothing but GaoKao and once they pass they will think it’s the time to relax. That’s the reason why most universities in China seem like places for dating and playing rather than studying.
For many years have the Chinese experts wondered why Chinese university students are not as creative and smart as these in America though Chinese can do much more better when they are young. I think it’s very clear: We Chinese spend the time for playing on studying and spend the time for improving on relaxing. There is nothing i can criticize on GaoKao because it may be the only way for China to choose better students for universities. But it is really necessary to change some rules such as set more optional lessons related to the majors in university and few lessons about math and chemistry to help students choose major. It’s also important for universities to learn something from the western countries so as to improve the students’ passion for studying, for example, it’s a good idea to separate the degree into three levels. In my view, only big changes can make big efforts.
I do hope some transformations can be taken as soon as possible. I do hope there is no longer a child complaining about a boring and tired childhood in my hometown. The Chinese education system has still a long way to go, but I believe it will become wonderful soon. I wish China will be stronger and stronger.
Education has always been a big problem~But it's really hard to change a huge system so easily.I really hope China is on her way of changing it~
ReplyDeleteI do have some sympathy with you, and i, myself, are also not very pleased with the current situation of the education system in China. However, there's a saying that "Existence is reasonable." Maybe we will not build a completely new system but just improve the existing one for a long time because of the large and growing population.
ReplyDeleteMy teacher has told me that the entrance examination is not the fairest way but is the only fair way which we can choose. There are a lot of shortcomings in this system, but the change will also happen. If you want, you can focus on this aspect. We all will be with you then
ReplyDeleteIt is true we are lucky. While I think there are a lot of SM3 students complaining that they have to work hard after a crazy senior high school studying. Although I do not like to spend too much time on study, I have to say the more we study the better we are.
