Blog 4: A Catastrophe Caused by Prejudice

Last Thursday, we watched a fantastic movie called “Schindler’s List” in the class, which perfectly described the inhumanity, the evil misdeed of the Nazi Party and also successfully figured the main role “Schindler”, a glorious character who had actually saved eleven hundred Jews from the talon of Nazi Party. I am not going to retell or summarize the story as you all have seen it. I just want to tell you some of my true feelings and reflections on what the movie has shown me.

It was awesome and horrifying. What I saw during the movie grieved me so much: a devil shot right on an innocent Jew’s head, after which several floods of blood rushing out from the hole of his skull. After that was the massacre in Krakow, a city in Poland. Jews in rags were screaming and running across the streets with great pain, accompanying with the shrill sound of the bullets coming from Nazis’ guns. Jews just wanted to survive. They tried to escape from this catastrophe, although it was in vain to do that eventually. Rags and shells of bullets were everywhere and they both were immersed in human blood. Nazi troops ruined Krakow. They trampled on the humanity- the basic human right for living.

I tried my best to stop myself from screaming when seeing those cruel scenes because I could feel my crying soul. Although the movie was shot in black and white, the evil conducts of Nazi did not fade away; on the contrary, it enhanced them- audience may believe that it was more horrific if it was in colour. In the movie, there was a little girl walking through the street while Nazi troops were busy with killing Jews. She was in red, which is the only colour of the whole movie. I think it may symbolize life and hope. Unfortunately, the girl appeared again but among the dead bodies, which made me feel woeful. However, in the end, the scene suddenly became colourful, which meant that Jews had walked out of the hell and they were heading towards a bright future.

This movie is quite instructive. We hate wars and we want peace. Furthermore, if there is less prejudice on countries, races and religions, the world war two may have not broken out. German and Jews may have lived happily together. Conflicts would disappear from our world and our world would be a perfect one.

  1. I think your blog shows your good knowledge of English language.I agree with you that war is the most terrifying thing in the world. It can bring a huge catastrophe to human beings. It can change ordinary people into butcher. The movie make me cherish the peaceful life we are now living more.

  2. I do not think the world war two was caused by prejudice, but whatever what the reason was, it was a catastrophe.
In my opinion, as long as there are more than one race in the world, there will be prejudice. However, we can decrease it by communicate and understand.

  3. I approve your opinion. The film also impressed me a lot and gives me some reflections on prejudice. If there is less prejudice in the world. If during the time of World War2,Germany could have less prejudice on Jewish race. There would be less people dying.Prejudice really brings a big catastrophe to people. Also,in my opinion, if the human beings can promote understanding and communicate with each other first, they would find whatever race he is,he would really have something impress you and move you. Finally, your blog is deep and set people thinking.Thank you for sharing you feelings with me,I learnt much from it.

  4. I think your blog is very good! I do not want to get a retrospect about that movie, because it makes me feel awful. However, I think from your description, I can sense your anger and sympathy. Now we all live in the “earth village”, so, different races should have a mutual respect. No race is better than others. We should learn from others and enhance our own merits. If this world does not have any discrimination or invasion. I think we can lead a happier life and everyone can find his/her wellbeing!

  5. I love this blog very much, and I love the movie Schindler’s List as well. It is true that the prejudice always causes bad things, and sometimes it may even course a catastrophe! I can’t agree more on your opinion towards the prejudice of races. For me, the prejudice of the races is rather foolish and unreasonable. No one has the right to say that his or her race is better than other’s, and all the races in the world should be equal. I sincerely hope that there would be no more people like the Nazis in the world and everyone can live in peace and harmony.

  6. It is a good film that portrays so convincingly the pain and suffering of war. Kudos to the actors and producers. Besides racial prejudice, there was also injustice.
We cannot deny that there is evil in this world. We need to be vigilant as power struggles are inevitable. Let us not kid ourselves that there can ever be a perfect world. However we can continue to be responsible for keeping peace in this world, no matter how small a part we play.

  7. The movie shock me too even if this is not the first time I watch it. The appeal of peace and humanity run through the whole movie. How lucky we are to live in a peaceful world. We should not forget the history and should learn something from it. Even the race which made the mistake should face up to the truth. German did something well in it. I hope everyone including ourselves can face up to the history.
