Blog 4: cross talk

I have listened to much Chinese traditional drama. Among them, some gain people’s fun and happiness; some are good for people’s soul; the others are so thoughtful that they bring people to soul-searching. As for me, because I live in the north of China so that I am familiar with the origin of the cross talk, I am into the cross talk best.
Many famous cross talk artists appeared at the beginning of the foundation of People’s Republic of China. The historically greatest artist also came from that period. His name was Ma Sanli. As a junior child, I did not get chance to listen to his kindly voice before the stage. Otherwise, I have listened to the record through the radio. It is enough and I already feel content with it. Many of his works are recognised by audience as masterpieces. They have been repeated again and again as Ma’s expansion of life. When I was a child, I heard one of his stories which was called “Dou Ni Wan” from my mother. Until now I can still remember every word of the story.
Of all the stories, I like the one called “a building with eighty storeys” best. There were three men sharing one apartment on the eighty-first storey in a building. One day, the elevator was out of service. So they decided to climb up the stairs. In order to avoid tiring of monotonous climbing, a man proposed that they each told a sorrowful story in the process and everyone agreed. When the first two men ended their stories, they had already reached the eightieth floor. The last person then told a sentence which was fully woeful: I forgot to bring the only key!
I believe a good work will never fade. I wish the cross talk will be known by more people and bring happiness to them.

  2. I think your topic is interesting and meaningful. Cross talk is a pretty good form of art in China. It is also a kind of cultural heritage for all Chinese. However, it is a truth that less and less people are learing it now. Moreover, the public pays too little attention to it. In my opinion, maybe in one day, cross talk will be art in the past. Though we take some measures, it will just delay the disappear of cross talk. But at least, we could enjoy it now, and we should enjoy it now before it disappear.

  3. Cross talk is unique in the Chinese culture but like Qin Tian, I think the young people are practising it less and less.
    Some expressions to change:
    junior child - young child
bring people to soul-searching - cause people to soul-search
